5.5e Automatic Effects: Player’s Handbook (2024) Now Available

Grim Press is excited to release 5.5e Automatic Effects: Player’s Handbook 2024, a comprehensive automation companion for the 2024 Player’s Handbook in Fantasy Grounds.

Built to reduce manual setup and rules bookkeeping, the module adds ready-to-use actions, effects, powers, auras, and advanced automation for hundreds of player-facing options. Rather than rebuilding effects character by character, players and Game Masters can spend more time at the table and less time configuring Fantasy Grounds.

Hundreds of Automated Options

The module includes automation covering a substantial portion of the 2024 Player’s Handbook, including:

  • More than 390 spells, with matching spell scroll support
  • More than 150 class features
  • More than 40 feats
  • More than 45 species traits
  • Weapon Mastery properties
  • More than 130 global and custom effects
  • Damage, healing, saving throws, conditions, resistances, regeneration, durations, targeting, auras, persistent areas, and more

These records are designed to work directly from Fantasy Grounds character sheets, giving players convenient actions for abilities they use throughout a session.

Advanced Spell and Battlefield Automation

Some abilities require more than a simple damage roll or condition. Persistent spell areas, auras, difficult terrain, and other battlefield effects can involve multiple creatures, repeated saving throws, durations, and effects that trigger as creatures enter or leave an area.

The Automatic Effects system provides tools to handle many of these situations directly inside Fantasy Grounds.

For example, effects such as Grease can make use of advanced automation and helper objects to represent ongoing areas on the battlefield while tracking associated effects through the Combat Tracker.

Built for the 2024 Rules

Every automation record is designed around the 2024 version of the D&D 5e rules.

Spell entries provide their automated actions while linking back to the corresponding records in the official Fantasy Grounds Player’s Handbook, giving players quick access to the original rules alongside the additional automation.

This makes the module an automation companion rather than a replacement for the Player’s Handbook.

More Than Basic Effects

The module also supports more sophisticated automation through helper NPCs and integrated Fantasy Grounds extensions.

Persistent effects such as Sleet Storm, Web, Fog Cloud, walls, magical areas, and similar abilities can use specialized helper records to represent their presence on the battlefield and assist with ongoing effects.

The result is a deeper level of Fantasy Grounds automation for abilities that would otherwise require significant manual tracking.

The Foundation of 5.5e Automatic Effects

5.5e Automatic Effects: Player’s Handbook 2024 serves as the foundation of the updated Grim Press Automatic Effects line for the 2024 rules.

If your group is moving its Fantasy Grounds campaign to D&D5.5E, this module provides the automation tools needed to make that transition considerably easier.
