Disappointingly these are not actors and just journal entries. While the info is helpful for a quick NPC, when purchasing Foundry content from Grimpress I was expecting the same level of awesomeness that the Fiend or Foe modules gave or the Allies and Antagonists. Unfortunately if you want to use these NPC’s on your maps you’ll need to put all the info and art into an actor you stat and create yourself. Still better to get the Foundry version vs the PDF as it’s easier to copy/paste or link to the journal entry.
For $5 I’d consider this a great purchase, for $10, I would of liked these in actor format. I don’t even need complex stat blocks, just some basic ones with art and info in their bios for me to edit and use as needed. So I can drop in and play with in the middle of campaigns as needed.
I hope future versions of this series are presented as actors. I’d happily of paid a little more, like $15, to have these premade and ready.
I’m also a little disappointed this isn’t clearly stated somewhere in the description. After buying all of the other modules and getting actors, it was saddening to realize this wasn’t the case and thought I misread or didn’t see that in the description, but it’s not clearly stated anywhere it’s a collection of Journals and didn’t realize the “Ruleset agnostic” bullet point which I guess was my only hint.
Still, amazing art, fun NPCs.
Last note, I hope the journals receive better styling and formatting in future versions. Nothing wrong with it, it’s just a plain journal entry with pictures. But if they were stylized with columns, boxes and condensed better to quickly read about the NPC this would be very helpful. I’m going to want to use these when I need a sudden NPC in the middle of a session, so certain information I’d like at the top to know how to jump into the character quickly and use.

Thanks for the feedback. We strive to make different types of content for different users – this series specifically being promoted as “ruleset agnostic”. We have many different types of NPC products with DnD5e statblocks (with a few surprise releases coming in the future), so we hope you’ll enjoy checking those out.

Now that I’m currently moving away from D&D, I quite pleased that I won’t have to “migrate” these to whatever game I am running. The writing is solid and the art is great. Looking forward to pulling these into my Daggerheart or Shadowdark games I have in the works.
